I thought it was called the Switch because you can switch from TV to handheld. Without the switch part, the naming seems a little weird. Guess it's just brand recognition at this point. No matter, I'm happy with the Switch I have so I won't be getting a Lite.
I'm glad it is available for more people to play. It's a treat.
I don't know about game withdrawal, but something similar I remember experiencing is when a game console comes out and it takes forever to get new games. Some of the consoles that I remember having to wait a long time between good games were the N64, GameCube (at first), and Wii. It doesn't seem to be as much of a problem for me now, though.
What amazes me about the underwater music from DKC is that you'd never expect it was coming from a SNES!
I think you can get it on other consoles now. Not sure which ones, but I think I remember seeing it as a downloadable title somewhere on the PS4 maybe?
I loved the NES version, but I don't think it's aged very well. The remake on the Wii that WayForward made was amazing, though.
I remember seeing Xenophone a lot in arcades back then, but I didn't really get into it. I dunno, I was more drawn to Rampage for some reason. Wasn't one of the characters you could play as in Xenophone some kind of duck person?
Another interesting thing about Fishing Derby is that it was made by David Crane. He also designed PItfall and A Boy and His Blob. I met David Crane in person twice. Once at E3, and once at the grand opening of the National Videogame Museum.
Crystal Crisis is almost EXACTLY like Puzzle Fighter and it's very good.
Fishing Derby is a much better game than Captain Cat. And Fishing Derby is where the phrase "Shark Element" came from that a lot of developers use to describe risk vs. reward in a game.
Since Nintendo is not making any 3DS games anymore in the forseeable future, I'm going to do a 3DS tribute 'best of' blog sometime in the next month or so.
