BaD: '92, '93, & '94

While I think the 80's had the best arcade games, the 90's certainly had the best console games.

Super Mario Kart is one of my top five favorite games of all time.

Never got into the Mortal Kombat games.  The first movie was actually kind of good, though.  Can you guess my favorite MK characters?

Only good thing about Sonic 2 is that Tails was in it.

My friend saw a demo of Star Fox in a store and called me and told me I had to get it.  It was pretty mind blowing at the time.

Mega Man X is one of my favorite Mega Man games.  I have it and played it to death back then.  I only rented MMX2.

Earthworm Jim IS hard!  It's more fun to watch than to play.  I did like the cartoon.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who didn't like Earthbound.  When I auditioned to review games for The Dallas Morning News, I had to review a game I liked and a game I didn't like.  Since I was big into RPGs then, the review of the game I liked was Final Fantasy 6, and Earthbound was the review for the game I didn't like.

I remember Killer Instinct being everywhere but I didn't really get into it.  I would have you guess my favorite KI character but I'm not sure I have one.  So you can pick one out for me.

If Miyamoto really didn't like Donkey Kong Country, then he's at fault too since it's just imitating one of his most famous works: Super Mario Bros.  DKC may not have been the most innovative title gameplay-wise, but it was still fun.  When my brother Jeff was about a year old and could only say a few words, he saw DKC and liked it so much that soon after one of his first words was actually Donkey Kong!

I didn't watch the Super Bowl this year.  I just didn't feel like supporting the NFL for various reasons.  Plus I had to work.  Hated missing the Puppy Bowl, too, but it was getting to be the same every year anyway.

BaD # 3- Emulator Oddities: The Pokemon Mini

One of the reasons why I like Pokemon Channel is all the Pokemon MIni games you can play.  I knew about the Pokemon MIni, but I never saw it in stores so I never had one.  I think it was pretty rare or hard to get or whatever.

You're not missing much with City Folk.  It did little to improve what was in Wild World. In fact, there are many aspects about Wild World I liked more.

Time Warp 1980 - Rally-X

As a kid, I only saw the Rally-X arcade machine once.  It was in the front of another grocery store.  I played it, but I never caught the name of it so I always remembered it as the race car maze game I played once.  That is, until it was on the Namco Museums and I was like, "Oh that's what it was called."

I read that they showed Rally-X and Pac-Man at the same arcade trade show and analysts predicted that Rally-X would be the next big thing, not Pac-Man.  Oboviously they were wrong, but I can see why they would think that back then.

I actually like New Rally-X more, as it improves the gameplay and makes it more playable.  There's a lot of cool tricks to boost your high score if you can collect the flags in a special order.

Speaking of special, the Special Flag first appared in Rally-X, and has since gone on to be a Namco icon in many other games.  You can find it in old games like Xevious and Pac-Land, as well as newer games like Star Fox Assault (made by Namco), and Tales of Vesperia.

I like the Rally-X cameo in one of the PSP Ridge Racer games.  Rally-X is a mini-game, and if you can get a high score, you can unlock the Rally-X car in the main game.  It's all blocky and when you drift, it even poops out three puffs of blocky smoke behind it!

BaD #3: Captain N's Most Most Wanted Switch Games of 2018

Kirby Star Allies HECK YEAH!

I didn't know that Blade Strangers would have that girl from the fishing platformer game in it!  I'll have to look that up.

There are a few other fighting games with an all female cast, but the only one worth mentioning is also from SNK.  Gals Fighters on the Neo Geo Pocket Color.

Time Warped 1980 - King & Balloon

Posted on 02/04/2018 at 12:33 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I had never heard about this game until I learned about it through the PSOne Namco Museum volumes.  And I do believe the first time I played it was on the PSP Namco Museum Battle Collection.  Although last year when I went to Free Play Arcade, they had a King & Balloon machine there.  I think that's the only time I've seen one.

"Thank you!"

"Bai Bai!"

My Lone Contribution to BaD: My thoughts on the Switch

I like my Switch a lot, too.  But right now I play my PS4 more often.  That might change down the road, but that's how it is now.  I nearly always just play my Switch through the TV.

Namco Museum vol. 2 was the first PlayStation game I owned.

I've seen Baby Pac-Man in quite a few places over the years.  I even saw it last month when I went to PAX South!  It's hard to find because that machine is a pain in the butt to maintain, supposedly.

Super Pac-Man is one of my favorite Pac games.  It's so crazy and I got really good at it because when I was a kid, it was at the front of the local Wal-Mart for the longest time.

I actually side with Midway on those other Pac-Man games, too.  Namco let that stuff slide for a few years because it was making them money.  So they're at fault as much as Midway was.  It would be very dumb for Namco to phase out Ms. Pac-Man, as most consider it a better and more memorable game.
