Last Guardian Executive Producer Leaves

Posted on 12/08/2011 at 01:41 AM | Filed Under News

I think this is another example of Japanese developers breaking under the strain of creating huge games. We've seen protracted development cycles for FF XIII, FF Versus XIII, and Metal Gear Rising in addition to The Last Guardian. At this point, I have doubts about the future of this project, and Team Ico as a studio.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Preview

This has been one of those games that sounded like a train wreck when it was first announced (that name is awful), but the more I see of it, the more I want it. This may be the Fable game that I always wanted...

Shigeru Miyamoto Altering His Role at Nintendo But Not Leaving Big Projects

Posted on 12/08/2011 at 01:37 AM | Filed Under News

This is good news all around. Let Miyamoto try out whatever crazy, casual game ideas he can come up with, and give someone fresh a chance to step up in Nintendo. Somewhere in that company is the next Miyamoto or Aonuma, I just know it.

New Xbox Dashboard Launch Plagued With Problems

I couldn't connect to Live last night. I figured it was an update problem, but I'm glad my 360 isn't borked.

Katamari Vita Lets You Unlock DLC Through Gameplay

At least some of the missions for this game are post-development add-on content. In those cases, it's pretty cool that you can earn them through gameplay if you so choose.

Epic to Announce New Game at the VGAs

I wonder if this game has anything to do with the GDC tech demo titled "Samaritan". Epic tends to integrate elements from their Unreal Engine demos into actual projects. You can see the Brumak in their 2004 demo, for example.

inFAMOUS 2 Review

I didn't mind more of the same simply because I love the first game so much, but I agree that they should have been more aggressive. If they do a third game, I expect them to change it up. And I also missed those platforming levels.

Jurassic Park: The Game Review

Posted on 12/01/2011 at 11:39 PM | Filed Under Review

You had my interest piqued with the talk of Heavy Rain, but it's clear that this game stumbles with the QTEs, and that was vital to my enjoyment of HR. I think that the adventure genre is what's needed for Jurassic Park in the modern gaming landscape, but this isn't it.

Oh, well, we can always dust off the Genesis game.

Final Fantasy Type-O Getting a U.S. Release?

He specifically said overseas in the interview though, so I take that to mean that the game is getting ready for a localization. Obviously, his team wouldn't be translating it, and they're probably working on balancing (the game is supposed to be really tough) and additions for a NA version. And then I'm sure it will get re-released in Japan as FF Type-0 International.

I will be surprised if it gets released on UMD here, though. My money is on a PS3 port.

Square Enix Says to Expect More Deus Ex

Same here, on both counts. I was going to skip it until I read the reviews. I'm glad I played it. Interesting that about half the games mentioned are Western made. The times, they are a changin'.
