Happy New Year!

Happy New years to you too!

That meme is usually pretty accurate, but I actually went to a friends for a few drinks this time around.

14 Games Beat in 2018

Just got DQ11 and left the first town. Not very far in at all but I'm enjoying it so far.

I loved Persona 5 but never got around to finishing it for some reason. Probably because that game takes an eternity to beat and I didn't have that kind of time when I was playing it.

I also didn't get around to finishing MH:W but I liked it.

Ys 8's true ending is weird as fuck. I'll give you that much.

And yeah I had that exact complaint about Origins. Fuck Bayek, I wanted to play as his wife. She did all the interesting stuff and hung out with all the historical figures. It was an odd choice that's for sure. I definitely recommend Odyssey though if you're not burnt out from Origins.

100 Steam Games

Yeah Humble bundle and this site: are where a fair few of mine came from.

100 Steam Games

I... uh... somehow have 700 games. Like exactly 700. I don't know where they came from. I don't know what they are. But they're there, staring at me, daring me to play them. And yet I just started up another Dark Souls character...

Once you get to the 100 mark it's a good idea to start properly separating them into different genres or you'll never find what you want.

Also, that's a damned good haul if I might say.

Steam Winter Sale & Aquaman

One of the best things about PC gaming is being able to rebind keys I swear. It should be in every console game in general, but for some reason a lot of console games don't have it. I think in doom I either have grenades set to G or F. It's been a while. Spacebar will be jump in almost every game you play though.

So are you a key+mouse convert now? :p

The opinion on Origin vs Odyssey is fairly split. I like Odyssey more overall, but Origin is probably a more consistent game. In Odyssey, it feels like the highs are high and the lows are low, whereas Origin is just kind of a flat line.

Get Celeste. It's really good! Whichever system you have play it on. It's hard, but definitely not the hardest game in the genre. It's really well made, even if sometimes I bashed my head against the harder sections of the game for quite a while. I had to get as many strawberries as possible even if they don't ultimately matter.

I've played a little bit of Sunset Overdrive, and it was fun in the way that THPS games used to be.

If you like Origins, definitely give Odyssey a go. It's the best Assassin's Creed game I've played in a while, and improved upon Origins in almost every way. Both games are pretty good, but storywise and mechanically Odyssey was just better for me. Really liking that game so far.

With Doom, I've played on both. It's well designed for a gamepad. While I'm definitely a keyboard and mouse guy, it's not for everyone. The mouse part is much better, but the keyboard part takes a bit of adjusting to. Either way, Doom is awesome! And if you do come over to the Keyboard and mouse side, I have some awesome PC fps game recommendations for you!

Cuphead and VVVVVV ... and Castlevania ... and LiS2

Steam sales start either tomorrow or the next day and I'd say a fair few of those would be pretty cheap.

Also, with Momodora grab Reverie under Moonlight. There are 4 momodora games, but the first ones aren't all that good. If you like Reverie go back and try the others but I definitely recommend that one first.

The Games of the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection

I love the SNK stuff I've played, but I've only played Ikari Warriors, metal slug, and their fighting games. I need to play some more!

 Great blog btw.

Cuphead and VVVVVV ... and Castlevania ... and LiS2

Ok some recommendations: I highly recommend Hollow Knight, especially if you like the metroid inspired castlevania games or well, metroid. Hollow Knight is one of the few games that comes close to grabbing onto what I think  makes Dark Souls special, but even without that it'd be an enjoyable experience. It's in my top 5 games of all time, so you should definitely give it a go.

Since you're a fan of Castlevania, you have to try Odallus: The Dark Call, as it basically mixes the classic style castlevania with the metroidvania style of the newer games.

Momodora is also a really, really good metroidvania. It's got really nice pixel art and a really dense atmosphere that I love.

If you haven't played Dead Cells yet, I highly recommend it. Oh and Iconoclasts!

Now, all of those games are quite difficult, so if you want a nice chill experience after those titles, I suggest Yoku's Island Express. It's a pinball metroidvania (yes, I am obsessed with metroidvania's), and it's just a really nice, relaxing game. The two genres actually work well together.

If you ever do get time keep these in mind. They're all fairly short experiences though.
