The Transformers movie came out at the height of my being 'into' Transformers, so I was very excited to see it in theaters as a kid. I even brought my first and favorite Transformers toy with me to the movies: Ironhide.
I thought the movie was awful. I know they killed off a bunch of the characters to make room for new toys, but I think that was totally unnecessary. Even though I knew they were just toys, so I wasn't distraught or anything, I was still bummed they killed off my favorite character, Ironhide, in the worst way. Plus, the cursing in the movie was totally uncalled for. I know they were trying to make it appealing for older viewers, but this is still a movie about kids toys. They should've just had the characters they wanted to get rid of go off on a faraway mission, and wouldn't return for eons.
After that, the new season of the cartoon featured events after the movie, and it just lost its charm on me. That's about the time that I started being disinterested in Transformers. Of course, there were other outside factors as well, plus I was just getting older. You know how fickle kids are. But the movie was what triggered it all.
But you are right, the animated movie from the 80's is still better than the Micheal Bay films.
If you want to see a Transformers story DONE RIGHT, you definitely need to try Fall of Cybertron. --Cary
I never had a Genesis as a kid, so I didn't discover how awesome the Streets of Rage games were until much later when you could play them on collections. I always picked Blaze for some reason.
Does Capcom's stuff ever go on sale via PS+?
I have both of those. The Activision collection is one of the best out there. I have both the PS2 and PSP versions. The PS2 version is cool because it has the 2600 version of Commando! Really! Not sure how that got around Capcom.
Here's how I got into Transformers:
When I was a kid, my dad came home from a buisness trip and brought me back Ironhide, my first Transformers toy. So I thought, since I had a Transformers toy now, I'd check out the cartoon. I liked it, so I kept watching it and saved my allowance to get Cosmos the green UFO. From then on, I was hooked, until a couple of years later when they came out with the animated movie. That's about the time I stopped getting into it.
I'm glad I write for a site where I don't have to provide a review score.
Why don't people talk about MY reviews? :)
The Actvision collection is fantastic. One of the best game collections of all time.
Another PSP game you should get is Loco Roco and its sequel.
Here's my review of Rayman Legends:

Only Transformers games I've played are the ones I reviewed last year. Prime was decent, but Fall of Cybertron was fantastic. I hope you get to play that one someday.
People think too much. :)
