Open bor,beat em ups galore!

Once again I don’t have too much to talk about concerning games. I know, I’ve become the worst blogger on pixlbit!Regardless a recent interest mine has been open bor beat em ups and other ’remakes” using the Streets Of Rage engine.

Golden Axe myth

I really dig this one. Its’ custom sprites remind me of Battle-Chasers and you can even get the anthro panther guy Cronos as a hidden selectable hero.  It’s also neat we get to play as Death-Adder before he turned evil! Many of the levels even have branching paths which adds to the replay-ability.

SOR: Silent Hill

The sprite edits here are “great” and your favorite SH characters are all accounted for. The sheer number of monster types is impressive too! My only complaint about this one is “James’s ending” plays regardless who you beat the game with. Multiple endings would have been nice but considering these guys “do it for free” I cannot bitch too much. I imagine future updates will yield additional content!

Marvel first alliance 2

I know a lot of people hold the X-men in high regard as the ultimate Marvel beat em up but “this” tops even that. The sheer number of characters is fantastic and the game even goes through different plot archs focusing on everything from Red skull’s scheme to seize a powerful artifact from Doctor Doom to top secret experiments on prisoners using the Carnage symbiote. There’s even a point where Culsen from SHIELD assembles a Thunder Bolts team out of some of the game’s best villains.

Jennifer

Jennifer is really creepy. I think at first the creator wanted to pay a homage to Splatter-House by creating a “what if” scenario where the terror mask chose Jennifer instead of Rick. What we get from many revisions after that initial concept is a “creepy possessed zombie woman” rising from her grave to get her revenge on a weird disturbing “occultist dude” who supposedly did a lot of really nasty things to her. The plot leaves much up to interpretation so I’m fuzzy on the exact details. Regardless, the game has a really spooky atmosphere which sort of resembles  “The Grudge” unfolding from the perspective of one of the vengeful spirits. The game has a huge arsenal of moves, buckets of gore, and some fittingly demented boss designs. You can tell some of the monsters are sprite edits from other games but the overall package is superb!

......And more art because I'm a vain shilling bastard with insecurities!

PS: Uh, I need help with knowing how to do "previews" as it seems just to post my whole blog! Help me,senpai! Never-mind! I "think" I figured it out! Uh,gracias anyway!

darn man, Knightdriver is right, these games look totally awesome!  I never heard of this before!  This is one of those things that make me regain hope for human beings.  I love people who create stuff just to do it.

Probably Blaze & Tyris Flare. lol. For the record, I always thought Skate was friggin awesome too! He was one of the more original beat em up characters to come out of that era.

That SOR: Silent Hill looks great except that everyone knows you can't beat Pyramid Head. Your artwork looks great too. Glad to see you blogging on here again and seeing Larry on here too. Now where did Aaron go again?

Jeh Pete,I wish I knew where exactly Aaron got off to. But "nostalgic places" have that magic warm allure of drawing back patrons! I'm sure we'll see him again!
