BaD One: Destiny Install

Since 11am this morning I've been waiting for Destiny to install on my Xbox 360. It's been just over 2 hours so far. Mark tells me it took him 2.5 hours, so it should be done soon, but WHAT A WAIT! This is by far the longest install I've ever experienced for a game. I hope it's worth it.

I've been playing Pokemon Shuffle and Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam on my 3DS while I waited. I got to the part in Paper Jam where they tell you about amiibo support. It seems like I should be able to use my Olimar amiibo with my "not new" 3DS. We'll see though. I'll have to wait until I go home from Mark's place to try that.

And that's BaD One. Sounds like the name of a shuttle craft within a bigger space ship.

a bigger, BaDder space ship.  Tongue Out

that's not that long an install for a modern game.  Sometimes it takes days to download a game on my PS3/PS4.  I imagine you had the disc, but it had to download/install updates, huh?  Well I think there have been a lot of updates from the original disc version of that since it came out.  I could be wrong though.

Yes it was mostly updates that made it take so long, like 9 of them. The final time was 3.5 hours. It is worth the wait. I played it with Mark all evening on Monday. Really fun.

You think that's bad, buy a PS4 game.

The first PS4 game I played this year, Dragon Quest Heroes, didn't give my any problem. I was most worried about lots of updates on booting up the system for the first time, but they went by very fast. That's a big improvement over PS3 which always made me wait for yet another update every time I started it up.

Hmmm ... maybe it's a smaller game or you have a good Internet connection.

You can use Amiibo with Paper Jam, but if you don't have a New 3DS, you'll need to buy a seperate device that'll read them.  It's way cheaper than a New 3DS, so that's what I do.  Also, only Mario character Amiibos will work with Paper Jam, so you can't use your Olimar.

Oh darn! I haven't opened my Olimar amiibo box yet. I need a reason to do it.

It took all afternoon and evening for me to install the destiny legendary edition with all the dlc. The compatibility packs probably took the longest.

Yea, the compatibility packs take a long time. Everything else went quick.

Took me 8 hours on ps4.

No game should take so long. I hope you were able to do that overnight.

Thats nothing. Sony cap their download speed, and australia has slow internet anyway. Its taken 48 hours to download a game before.

I guess I'll shut my privileged mouth.

That is brutal.  My wife bought me Destiny on 360 for my birthday the week it first came out because they told her at the store it was the cool new game.  I opened it and put it in that night in the same way you wear that sweater you get but don't really like but it was a gift so that is what you do.  I don't think I have even put 8 hours into playing it.

Hot damn 2 hours?! I think Borderlands took that long on the PS4, and maybe when I first installed Destiny on the PS3 it probably took a little less. Still 2 freaking hours is crazy!

It actually came to 3.5 hours. I wrote the blog at the 2 hour mark thinking it was going to finish soon. Nope.
