Ben breaks the Xbone! Angry rant ahead!

I don’t see why I need to write this. By now you know my stance on the Xbox one. Aka, it begins with “hell” and ends with “no”. However, you may not realize I own a 360 and that I’m not exactly a sony fan boy. For me as a gamer it’s about the games. Well, it is to a point. If you offer me a sweet exclusive but then say I have to implant a cortex bomb into my skull I’m still going to tell you to fuck off.

For me saying “no” to Microsoft isn’t my attempt to be hip by dissing “the big corporation“. I’m also not jumping on the bandwagon just because most of my friends are. Put bluntly, it’s a moral obligation. Does that come off as crazy? Okay, fair enough! Let me break it down for you!

1. Microsoft’s solution for people with poor internet is to buy a 360. Yeah, they have that much nerve! Aka, if you are poor, enlisted, rural, or live in an area with frequent brown outs & black outs ms told you to fuck yourself. You don’t deserve to join everyone else in the glorious era of next generation gaming!

2. Microsoft reserves it’s right to change its’ policies at any given moment. Sure, maybe the kinect will not spy on us at first. But once Microsoft starts getting huge bribes from advertisement companies and the government to watch us and listen in on us you better believe they are going to sell us out lickity split!

3. Even if you are despicably rich and even if “mumsy and dadsy” are willing to buy you an Xbox one, do you want a console that essentially becomes a plastic paperweight once it’s no longer supported? I assume even privileged folks prefer things that continue to function and are of high quality.

4. You can theoretically share your gaming library with up to 10 family members but why is there a friggin number limit in the first place?!

5. Your “game disk” is a glorified install disk! Yup, the Xbox one hard-drive going to fill up quick!

6. While you can technically take a game to a friend’s house there’s a 1 hour limit to play it with them. Who the fuck thought of this brilliant decision? Time to break out the execution rifles and the blindfolds.

7. Yes, you can sell “used games” but only to retailers Microsoft approves of. What does that mean? Good bye rental services, Goodbye Mom & Pop stores! Time for all you people to look for new jobs!

8. While the X-bone doesn’t have to be online constantly it does have to check in every 24 hours. See? Even the console itself is being oppressed by Microsoft!

9. Yes ms, we realize “it’s up to the publishers”. But guess what? You are enabling them!

10. Want to buy a “used game”? Pay a $35.00 fee, chump!

11. You can lend your game to “one friend” on your list but once you do it’s bound to their profile. Aka, that’s where the caring-sharing trail ends!

12. Indie game developer? Please, enter the gas chamber to your left!

Hypothetically Microsoft is probably in the midst of changing many of these polices so they can bail water out of a sinking ship. However, the fact they had the audacity to pull this in the first place has just lost them a customer. Normally I absolutely loathe judging gamers for their console choices . Yet if you buy an Xbone you are part of the problem. No, that doesn’t put you in the same depraved league as a mass murderer, child molester, or a rapist. But it does make you a tool who is supporting anti-consumer and anti-privacy practices which can eventually infringe upon us all if they go unchallenged. (Don't worry. If we're already friends I'll forgive you! Just expect me to slap you upside your head, okay?)

PS: I realize to play online multi-player on the PS4 I have to buy a subscription for playstation plus. Yet that’s the only caveat I can pick at on sony’s side of the fence! Overall their pastures are still much greener with less cow-shit!

I thought that fee was specific to online multiplayer? I could be wrong, though. Cause honestly, if "PS+ is a paid service needed to play multiplayer online" is informing that meme, and it's not some crazy thing where the co-op or split-screen won't work sans internet, I don't see the big deal at all, really.

You're right,Joe. Local multi-player (co-op) is still free! Poor wording on my part,my apologies. Hopefully I did not give you a nerd-rage heart attack. lol.

No, you gave me something to Google, and I did, but I only read one article, so wasn't sure. I don't nerd rage, I just make sure I know what I'm buying. lol

Let me know if you find any "naughty sony secrets". Tongue Out I'm mostly with the PS4 but still a tad paranoid.

I can tell you one area where Microsoft actually thought really hard about what they were doing with the Xbox One. They thought of basically everyway to exploit and wring every penny out of the consumer. None of the so-called features actually add to the game experience. Even the mandatory Kinect, I can assume, is the sole excuse that this "console" is priced higher than the PS4.

There's only so much exploiting you can get away with until the consumer can smell a rat. And boy is that stench strong with the Xbox One.

Totally,Kev. I really thought microsoft respected us more. Guess they thought we were just mindless sheep for the slaughter. Glad we gave them the collective middle finger as opposed to jumping into their meat grinder in unison!

I dont mind stumping up an annual fee for online play as long as 1. It's not too expensive and 2: they do a dam good good (which admittedly Microsoft did do woth Gold membership on live). It kind of annoys me that Sony are being held as heros for not doing this stupid shit as like you I understand perfectly that Sony too are init for the money and they couldn't have been so retarded as to follow suite after the uproar. I totally agree with the idea of the console becoming like a lump of useless plastic, consoles are supposed to be collectable, I don't have a cupboard full of my old PC's as they would be completely useless now. I'm actually pretty gutted to be honest, I love my X Box 360 and I'm glad to see it'll be supported for a while yet but it's like a fortune teller stating your dad is going to touch you inappropriately in the future. ugh wish I'd never put that thought in there now!

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 02:45 AM

I don't get it,Adam. MS had such a good thing going. The Xbox and 360 were solid consoles and Xbox live gold shaped up nicely too. Why fuck it up after all that? Are these execs that disconnected from the reality the rest of us live in?

Yeah, sony is in it for the money too but I think they're going about it mostly the right way this time. (Unlike when they originally unveiled the PS3. Even an awesome giant crab couldn't sweeten the 600.00 they were asking for. lol. It's that inflated price that drove me to get a 360 instead.)

06/14/2013 at 04:03 AM

I totally agree with you on these points. While I don't have it in me to nerd rage anymore, the XBox One can go suck it. The console is nothing more than a shiny turd. What gets me is all these apologists on Reddit and Kotaku, saying that it's not as bad as people are making it out to be. Thing is, IT IS! Microsoft would have it to where the person who bought their games wouldn't actually "own" them. Nintendo understands it best when comparing games to toys. Once I buy it, it belongs to me, not someone else. Maybe I want to go back to it one day, like I'm doing right now with the SNES.

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 12:05 PM

Once we buy games we should own them,Setz. Paying $59.99 for a glorified rental is ridiculous.

I certainly won't be getting an Xbox One right away, if at all.  But I didn't get a 360 right away either and that's my favorite of the current consoles.

It's important for console makers to make sure that their publishers get as much money as they can, but NOT at the expense of the consumer.

The 360 has changed a lot since it was released.  I hope that the Xbox One can do that, too, and maybe change for the better.  Because right now they're not looking so appealing.

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 12:08 PM

Even if microsoft changes their policies to be "pro gamer" they can just as easily change them to be "anti-gamer" again,Cary. I really wish they were not so slippery with the way they word things.

But yeah, maybe when microsoft starts being genuine and honest out of sheer desperation I'll give them another chance. Maybe.

tolot be honest, I still could see myself getting an Xbox one.  The only thing is it would be 2-3 years down the road and there are still many things that would probably stop me from buying it.  If I have kids, I probably will not buy it.  If they still require kinect in 3 years, I will not buy it.  If I have to check in everyday, I probably will not buy it.  If there are only 2 worthwhile exclusives, I will not buy it.  If I am smart, I will not buy it.

The xbox one maybe the future of gaming, but that does not mean that I am ready for that future.  Maybe I do not see myself buying it in a couple of years.

They've really hammered the nails into their own coffin,Trans. There are just so many things that are unfriendly to the consumer it's ridiculous to the point of being self inflicted satire on microsoft's end. Xbox one? No, Xbox done!

Even if they change a lot of their backwards policuies I'm going to be very slow to trust them. Afterall, they reserve the right to change ANYTHING on a whim. There's not much of a security blanket there.

It's like PC gaming but without the benefits. No mods, no indie games, no cheap games, no offline play... I'm thinking the one reason it's online is so that Microsoft can make a fortune off ad revenue on the dashboard.

The thing is that there are actually some damn good looking exclusives on there. I really want project spark, but alas, that shall never be.

Between this and Windows 8, I don't see Microsoft lasting too long. Valve is in the process of converting games so they can be played on linux, and eventually move over to that system almost entirely. That will kill windows for pc gamers straight up, and this will kill their console gaming market.

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 12:21 PM

I brought that up in an earlier conversation, Blake. One of my replies was "Microsoft, what stops me from simply buying a pc with nice apps and better specs than the Xbone? You're offering an inferior version of pc gaming with more limitations. Are you fucking out of your minds?"

Yeah, they're done, Blake. Even if they get geniuses from around the world to advise them on a better course of action it's still going to be near impossible for them to turn this trainwreck around.

I am completely with you.  I am not a fanboy of any console.  I have a ps3, 360, & a Wii.  I bought them all because they had games I like.  I am a fanboy of my rights as a consumer.  I don't want a paper weight in 10 years.  I still play games on old consoles.  This gen, I played more ps2 games than current gen.  I had a huge catalog of games I missed while in college (I was really busy killing brain cells).  I prefer to buy new games, but I do buy used games when they are the only ones available at a reasonable price.  I cannot support the XBone.  I even sold my MS stock.

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 02:47 PM

I like the option to own & play older games too, mate! I can't even fathom microsoft's business tactics. They really were doing great with the 360. Why fuck up a good thing? Why create a console that becomes obsolete & useless when it's no longer supported? It blows my mind.

Even if MS changes a lot of its' policies in the near future I'll still feel as if they tried bending me over against my will. If they believe I'll be quick to trust them they got another thing coming!

Having an Xbone goes against everything i stand for and when a military personel who's out there risking there life so i can be free cant get an Xbone because it has to be connected to play, now whats wrong with that. Having a system which will never ever be a retro system does not appeal to me at all, but i guess Microsoft just never thought of the future, i know i have a 360 and over a hundred games cause ten years from now well after the 360 servers are down i will still be able to play games.

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 06:13 PM

If they did away with the 24 hour check and did a firmware update that made the Xbox one able to play games even offline it would put them in good graces with more gamers. Going "all digital" is not even a bad move. It's the way microsoft is doing it with all the little restrictions that's killing them. Steam is still doing it better. Nuff said.

Of course I'm still not addressing the other problems. Aka, the Kinect possibly being tied to Prism, limited sharing restrictions, used game fees, cds being glorified install discs, and the fact indie game developers are treated like shit when trying to premote their projects through Xbox live.(And they have to pay MS hefty fees just to update and patch their own property. Wtf is the logic behind that?)

I didn't think they could do it but MS dicked over everyone in one bundled package. Enlisted in the military? Fuck you. Rural farmer or rancher? Fuck you. Have an imperfect internet connection? Fuck you. Game collector? Fuck you. Indie game developer? Fuck you. Rich privileged buyer? Well, fuck you too. You're Xbone will still become a useless paperweight once it's no longer supported.

If "anyone" can be an Xbone apologist at this point something is seriously wrong with them upstairs OR they're being bribed.

You know your exactly right on all fronts and the sad thing is i really like Xbox live and although they do have the best online going i dont like it for online playing i like browsing through the updates, game vids conversing with freinds online and the automatic updates and patches for ny games, but the way they went about it is ludacris i mean i think i made a good point and you did to with the paper weight thing lol, i mean alot of systems in this day and age are getting more popular now then when they released look at the ps2 this system is still going strong especially with retro gamers like me and you, and the Xbone is not a justified purchase after it reaches its end and the Xbox Two or whatever gay name they come up with , your sitting here with a system you cant play and a library of games you cant play unless of course if the next xbox is backwards compatable but i couldnt phantom my 360 with all 100 plus games just taking up space cause i cant play it, that was the stupist idea i ever heard so like you said not only are they saying fuck you to everyone who has a crappy or no internet and the bad thing is if you got this system the only thing you could do is buy games and when your tired or done with it trade it cause really whats the ooint in keeping it.

BrokenH

06/15/2013 at 12:01 AM

There's a chance they'll change some of these restrictions or even most of them. To  have a fighting chance they will have to. Still, it will not erase my memory of what they tried selling us when the Xbone was first announced.

Personally I insist a console works properly even after it becomes "previous gen". Unless the Xbone gets a firmware update to make it work offline it's going to be the first gaming system in world history with a preordained death sentence. (Aka, when it's no longer supported online it becomes a useless plastic husk)

Lastly, Steam & GOG don't infringe upon us nearly as badly as microsoft's own services. We're all better off with retro consoles, pcs,Wii U, and the PS4. Microsoft needs to remove its' collective head from its' collective ass if the company is going to have any hope of turning this all around.

Normally I don't try to judge gamers based on their consoles of choice,James. However I cannot fathom anyone of sound mind and sound moral compass jumping on the Xbone. Doing so would just encourage infringing upon our consumer rights and our privacy.

06/14/2013 at 08:29 PM

You know  what's screwed up about XBO? They wait till they make a shitty online-DRM debacle of a console to make a new Killer Instict. And to add insult to injury, its not even developed by Rare. Truth be told, I would have bought a 360 in a heart beat if KI had just been made on it. But the XBO? Hell, no.

BrokenH

06/14/2013 at 09:36 PM

I don't see why they couldn't make a 360 version. I mean the game looks rather awesome but not beyond what is current gen. I think MS was wanting us to make a mass exodus to their new console though. To which I say "Thanks bro,but no thanks.".

KnightDriver

06/16/2013 at 02:25 AM

I just hope they don't turn off Live for Xbox 360 for a while, because I think I'm going to stick with it for a while. At 499  for Xbox One and 10 a month for live, they've pretty much priced me out of the next generation. I mean, there will have to be some seriously amazing games to get me to spend like that.

BrokenH

06/16/2013 at 03:18 PM

I'm with you,Knight. I do love my 360 so I do hope they continue to support it at least a few more years.

And you're right. That $499.00 price point and $10.00 a month for live doesn't exactly sweeten the pot.

KnightDriver

06/16/2013 at 11:48 PM

The original Xbox lasted until Summer of 2007, if I remember correctly. Not quite two years after 360 launched. I really hope they go longer than that this time though.

EternalKnight001

06/16/2013 at 05:01 PM

Agreed. Microsoft just keeps slapping gamers in the face. I. am. so. done with them. Period.

I especially agree with points:
-1 (that was an extremely ignorant thing for them to say. Worst quote ever; besides that weird little bit of back and forth during the Killer Instinct demo at the conference, which was so messed)
- 7/10: restriction on used games kills me. I just don't get it, at all.
- 8: Yikes, I do NOT get the need to constantly connect to the internet. Being a JRPG player mainly, and not ascribing to the MMO gameplay inherent in a lot of FPS games, its just plain backwards. Plus the whole potential for Big Brother like spying and such. Just.... bad idea.

BrokenH

06/17/2013 at 12:25 AM

We're on the same page 100%, Eternal. There are just so many anti-consumer policies with the Xbone I'd literally feel guilty supporting microsoft at this point. I don't want to enable their jerk-baggery. They have to realize they've screwed up and only we can show them just how much.

So,what's up with the KI debacle? I've read from some places two people were playing it and a rape joke was made. Is that legit? Granted, that wouldn't be the end of the world but it's still a tad tasteless.

Would shoud anyone exptect? After all they pulled on the Xbox 360 I'm sure they figured people would be okay with all they tried to offer them with the Xbox One. Hopw many people bought new Xbox 360's when theirs RRoDed? How many people whined on how they can't get allt he perks of PC gaming on their consoles, How many people give out every aspect of their lives to not just others, but to coroprations and advertisers with the servicdes they use?

I'm not saying what they did was right but they got some bad intel when they tried to create the Xbox one. And give all the info they got from what they learned from the Xbox 360 is it any surprise?
