I'll keep it short and simple, promise!

Playing: Jason wanted to go to Best Buy last evening and promised to buy me dinner if I took him. The little restaurant where we ate was about three store fronts down Game Box. Of course we had to go in, and I caved. Should not be spending money on myself without a job this close to Christmas, but... Lego Marvel Super Heroes is now mine. I wasn't going to get it last night because they didn't have any copies for the 360, which is my preferred gaming console, but the PS3 version was staring me in the face saying: "You know you want to take me home tonight" and that was that. And I needed something light-hearted and fun after last week. I've played three or four levels, and so far my favorite character to play as is the Hulk. "HULK SMASH!" 'nuff said.

Watching: Pretty much the same thing as last week, except that I forgot to mention season four of Warehouse 13.

Reading: Just bought a couple of new books - Storm Dancer (The Lotus War Book 1) by Jay Kristoff. It's a steampunk kinda book. Haven't started it yet, but it looked interesting. Also got the second Walt Longmire mystery, Death Without Company by Craig Johnson, and I started  the first Jack Taylor mystery The Guards.

Listening: Nothing new - my friend Tom's CD Bottle Full For the Shanty Man, Garnet Rogers' CD Night Drive, Billy Idol's Greatest Hits, Craig Morgan Robson's Peppers and Tomatoes.

Miscellaneous: I might have mentioned that I'm taking part in a photo a day challenge for the month of November. I'm having fun with it, if anyone's interested in the pics, they're on Flickr in the November Photo of the Month set.

I think I may have written my best blog entry ever with the one before this one. I dunno. All I know is that I may have gotten a lot of non-gamers interested in games.

Spent Friday night and Saturday evening at a couple of sessions in memory of Tom. We filled the place Friday night, and rafters were raised. Repeat on Saturday. Lots of rowdy, "inappropriate" songs were sung, stories told, and I finally stood up and led a song, with my friend Pete's help, because as soon as Pete announced I was going to sing, I immediately forgot most of the words. Maybe I can manage to learn at least one more before the session next month. We'll see.

And there you have it, what I've been up to this past week. I should go walk the dog, but I hear the siren song of Lego Marvel Super Heroes calling me...

I kind of want to get Lego Marvel, but I'll wait until I hit a dry spell with the PS4 and want something to play on it. Right now my attention's going completely to Skylanders, which is like a more fun, but much more expensive Lego game, so no real reason to get a game like it now.

I've always found the concept of Skylanders to be extremely cool, but I have enough expensive hobbies and storage space issues, so I've stayed away.

Playing as Hulk in anything is always fun. This game looks cool because you get to play as Stan Frickin' Lee. I'm a total sucker for anything with that guy in it. I wanted to comment on your last blog because Journey is such an interesting title that can mean so many different things and it all really depends on where you are in your metaphorical journey throughout life, however I would end up rambling on for a while cause I have so much to say about it. I might do a full length blog about it someday.

Writing about Journey without rambling is difficult. I've got several drafts of blogs that I started about it and never finished because i couldn't get what I wanted to say down.

I'm really loving Lego Marvel. I scoffed at the guy in Game Box last night who said it was the best Lego game yet, but I may have to agree with him.

Nights singing with friends are always fun. I haven't done that in years. I need plenty of lubrication before I can do it though. :)

Ranger1

I used to need that lubrication, too. I've had a lot of recent confidence boosting, though. And Peter shoving me off the deep end...

I played the demo for Lego Marvel and yes, Hulk was a ton of fun. I think it's funny the way you can turn him back into Bruce Banner and then into Hulk again.

There's a trophy for that, lol.

Just getting back into trophies. I noticed the people who do Xbox360achievements.org also have a very similar PS3trophies.org site. I will be using it when I'm finished with the main story in Ratchet & Clank Into the Nexus.

I've used that site a time or two.

Oh Lego Marvel...you've sucked me back in. This game is a lot of fun, and I'm glad you're enjoying it. Warehouse 13 is a great show, and I think I bought that season on iTunes so I could watch it on the go. Picture a day sounds like fun...I should try and do that with the Blog A Day stuff.

This is my third attempt at the Photo A Day thing. I tried in May, took one photo and that was it. Tried again in June, made it to two that time. So far, so good this month. Thursday's was hard, though.

My wife & I watched a lot of Warehouse 13 and then stopped.  I don't know why.  I think we made it to season 3.

Netflix only has up to season 3 on it, I'm watching the fourth season on Amazon Prime.

ah me and my dad watch the Jack Taylor tv show on netflix. good stuff.

I saw you playing Lego Marvel when it posted your trophies on facebook.  I was like "She got that!"

Ranger1

I got into the Jack Taylor series because of the TV show. It's hard reading because Jack's so self-destructive.

on the TV show it handles it kind of in a light way, is the book a little more serious?  I love the show though.

Ranger1

The books are self-deprecating, like the show, it's just easier to watch than read.

I'm thinking I might pick up LEGO LOTR for my 360 sometime, especially since I can grab it new for under $20 anymore. I've never played a LEGO game since lego star wars on DS years ago.

Ranger1

11/19/2013 at 07:14 PM

I have all of the Lego games except for Harry Potter and Batman 2. Lego LOTR is more open world than the previous ones and there are quests you can do for NPCs.

KnightDriver

11/20/2013 at 02:46 AM

Whoa! That sounds cool. I played the demo for Lego LOTR and was amazed at how closely they followed the movies even copying it shot for shot.

Ranger1

Not being a fan of the movies, that really wasn't a selling point for me. It took me a little while to warm up to Lego LOTR because of that.

I'm working on reviewing LEGO Marvel Super Heroes right now.  It's very good.

Looking forward to reading your review, Cary.

I've noticed beyond Lego Marvel Super Heroes there haven't been many other team based super hero games. I keep hoping Activision will recruit Raven studios to do one more Marvel Ultimate Alliance!

I just wish they made the Lego games online co-op. Only ones they did were the first Star Wars games.

arrgh!  I have so many newer games backlogged right now I have no time for Lego Marvel, yet it keeps whispering in my ear every time I pass it on a shelf.  You are not helping any!

Ranger1

Mwahahahaha! Actually, if you hold out for a month or two, it'll probably drop in price. It's what I should have done.

I haven't played the Lego games that much, but I think you've convinced me to pick one up! Which one would you recommending starting with? I'm thinking LOTR or Marvel...

By the way, nice job on the Photo a Day challenge! The transition of Fall into Winter is one of my favorite times of year for photography, and considering where you are geographically it only makes it better!

Ranger1

11/20/2013 at 12:51 PM

Justin - thanks for checking out my photos! Thanks to some input from another graphic designer, I've decided that I'm good enough to do something with my photography. A local business is going to let me put up a few prints for sale, and hopefully something will come of it.

As for Lego games, I think the first Lego Indy game is my personal favorite, but I'm thinking the Marvel game may be a close second. It all comes down to your favorite franchise, I think.

NSonic79

that's it! I'm getting a lego game this Christmas, if only to see what all the fuss is about this game series. Now which one...

Ranger1

11/28/2013 at 12:08 PM

Which franchise is your favorite? That would be the one I'd recommend. I've been a huge fan of the Indiana Jones movies since I saw Raiders in the movie theater, so that one remains my favorite.
