Old RPGs

Posted on 05/20/2020 at 08:48 PM | Filed Under Blogs

It was!  Have you ever had one of those dreams where when you wake up, you think, "I have to write that down!"  Well I did and I even posted it as a blog on 1up.com (yeah it was that long ago).  Maybe I should post it again sometime here at PixlBit?

Old RPGs

In the first Final Fantasy game, you should walk around the forest surrounding the town, fighting monsters until you get to level 3 or so.  Then you can buy all the good armor and weapons and spells, then go fight Garland in that building.

But whatever you do, don't name your White Mage 'Cary'  My friend did that and he would always name the weakest character in an RPG after me.  Although now I kind of like white mages more, so you can go ahead and name your White Mage after me if you want.  A few years ago I actually had a dream that I was a White Mage in a new Final Fantasy game.  It was a pretty epic dream, too.  I'm surprised my brain thought of it while I was sleeping!

Yeah, Konami put out a lot of their obscure ones in Game Room.  I remember one I bought called "Don't Pull"  It was a puzzle maze game like Pengo.

Corona-BaD: Star Date 050192020: Adventures In Chicken Wings

I like chicken, but I'm kind of particular about fast food chicken.  I don't hate chicken wings, but I never crave them so I won't ever get them on my own volition.  Not really a big fan of places like KFC, Church's, or Popeye's.  But I do like Chicken Express and Zaxby's.  I used to eat Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich all the time, but the Wendy's near where I work kind of sucks so I don't go there much anymore.  But in the past, Wendy's has been one of my favorite fast food places.  But as I get older, I like fast food less and less in general.

In which this needle drip of a week comes to a close...

Wizardry and Dragon Warrior

Posted on 05/19/2020 at 08:43 AM | Filed Under Blogs

My friend and I played Dragon Warrior (and Final Fantasy) at his house on his NES when we were kids.  We would take turns playing while the other one would draw maps or look at ones we had or the beastiary in the instruction booklets.  I enjoyed those games, but not enough to buy them myself.  But that changed once I played FF4 on the SNES!

Pterodactyl Terror - Joust

Posted on 05/19/2020 at 08:39 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I loved Joust in the arcade!  It's one of my favorites as well.  I didn't have a 2600 as a kid, but I did have a 5200 and I had Joust on it.  It was one of my most played games on the 5200 alongside Pengo and River Raid.

On one of the early Midway collections, they put in Joust 2!  I didn't even know Joust 2 existed until that collection.  I've never seen it in an arcade.  If I saw it in an arcade as a kid, I would've freaked out!  Have you ever seen it or played it?

Only other game I know of that plays like Joust is Balloon Fight.  Andrew mentioned this before, but Balloon Fight was made by Satoru Iwata, former president of Nintendo and HAL Labs.  But sorry Iwata up in Heaven, but I still like Joust better.  I read somewhere that to get the hang of programming for the NES, Iwata made arcade games like Defender 2 and Joust.  Later on these were actually published by HAL for the NES!

Here's an interesting video I watched recently about Joust.

Bottomless Pit - Kid Icarus

I rented Kid Icarus once and just didn't like it.  Jumping just felt off which isn't good when falling into a pit is what kills you most of the time here.  I also didn't like Kid Icarus: Uprising because the controls were horrible.

The Ladies of Gals Fighters

I saw a lot of Konami games in the early 80s like Time Pilot and Gyruss.  I even saw Time Pilor 84 and Kicker a couple of times!  But I didn't see much from them after that until the late 80s during the TMNT arcade days.  Then they were everywhere!

When he asked to borrow it, I wanted to say, "HA HA HA HA HA HA HA...no."  But I didn't.  I was nice about it.
