BaD Eight: Destiny

Posted on 02/08/2016 at 03:17 AM | Filed Under Blogs

It's a ten-year agreement between Bungie and Activision to continuously update the game.

From Wikipedia:

Prior to the official release of Destiny in September 2014, Bungie declared that a major component of the game would be a continuous release of new content. Bungie Director of Production Jonty Barnes said: "We're going to continuously update the game from now until the end of time. That's always going to be part of the philosophy of Destiny. We always wanted to build a new universe but keep building upon it, rather than to do a complete and utter restart periodically."[76] By the time of Destiny's launch, two planned packs of downloadable content (DLC) had been officially announced: The Dark Below and House of Wolves.[77][78] From the launch of Destiny, players could purchase the Destiny Expansion Pass, which included the first two expansions at a discounted price versus buying them separately.[79] Players also received an exclusive sparrow (EV-30 Tumbler) if they purchased the Expansion Pass or The Dark Below by January 15, 2015.[80] At E3 2015, Bungie officially announced a new expansion called The Taken King.[81]

Huh. I know Destiny is a brand new style of game release, where they update it every year all on their servers. I guess as long as you pay $60 somewhere you get the Taken King stuff as well? Now I am confused ...

Is 1 million enough to cover its costs though? The 3.5 million was below expectations for the original.

I'm sure it will do well over its life span, since the original eventually sold over 8 million, but until it hits PS4, it is culturally irrelevant and deserves to be, Hail Sony.

Super Bowl 50 Ads: Cary's Best That Ever Was

If I had cable, I'd watch the puppy bowl, but if something is not on Netflix or free TV I cannot be bothered to care about it. Too expensive.

There's a meme going around about Lady Gaga being dressed for The Hunger Games, which I find very appropriate considering the Super Bowl is basically everything that series was satirizing about America. She does have a set of pipes on her though, I though it was a great vocal performance.

Didn't see the Mickey D's ad, but haven't gone in there for all-time breakfast yet. I wonder how long that will last. They have been doing it since some time last year to make up for their sales going down.

I am not surprised by Pokemon having millions of dollars at all. I am surprised by that series' longevity. I remember it starting when I was 7 or 8, but I never though it would last. Boy, was I wrong.

I thought the halftime show was mostly black and gold, only Coldplay had too many colors along with that Pepsi sign. I do love Skittles though. It was a good halftime show, but never came close to the batshit insanity of Katy Perry.

I missed the Doritos ads. I'll have to look those up, they usually are pretty funny.

I missed the PuppetMonketBaby whatever, but that has been blowing up on social media so I'll have to look it up.

I was getting another beer while the Heinz ad played, but I saw the sheep and butterfinger ones. Couldn't really hear them, house I was at had the sound turned down.

I liked the Apocalypse preview, especially Olivia Munn as Psylocke. I liked the Hulk v. Ant Man one too. Independence Day II looks like mindless fun. I'd drink Death Wish coffee ...

Jack in the Box is a national chain, so I think everyone got that one. With the pirate boat, right?

I watched the game and the halftime show, but I pay attention to the ads less and less. Political correctness has made them lame.

I look forward to playing these games soon

I see Long John Silver's stock going up. Maybe I should buy some.

I wonder how much of the game industry's billions are non-gaming items like these.

Yeah, that's all stuff I knew about, especially the 80s Reagan politics, but didn't live through it.
