Dark Void Zero and Attack of the Friday Monsters

Posted on 10/04/2015 at 02:29 AM | Filed Under Blogs

I find it interesting that Dark Void Zero was made to promote the main game, but Dark Void Zero ended up being the better title.  I love how Capcom put fake videos out explaining how Dark Void Zero was a 'lost' PlayChoice 10 NES title (not true).  While it's no Shovel Knight, Dark Void Zero certainly felt like a NES Capcom game I would've rented as a kid.

Attack of the Friday Monsters is a really unique experience.  I wouldn't really even call it a game since all you do is talk to people and I think you realy only have to play the card game a couple of times.  It may be short, but I'm glad I got to experience it.  Anyone who loves old Godzilla and other giant monster movies should take a look at it.

Speaking of Level 5, their game Yo-Kai Watch, comes out soon!  In fact, this Monday, Oct. 5, Disney XD is going to start showing the cartoon in the US!

I reviewed both Dark Void Zero and Attack of the Friday Monsters.  Let's see if I can find the reviews...

A ha!  Here they are:

Octoberween 2015 Video Weekend: Game Theory's FNAF Series pt.1

Never was too interested in the game, but the history and lore behind it is kind of interesting.  I read somewhere that WB has signed on to make a Freddy's horror movie!

One time I had a dream that I was at an amusement park and there was a Five Nights at Freddy's haunted house ride.  Needless to say, I didn't ride it in my dream, but I think it's interesting that my sub-conscious mind thought of that idea.

Retro Game of the Week: Final Fight

Posted on 10/03/2015 at 02:54 PM | Filed Under Blogs

I played the arcade version of Final Fight recently and I still enjoyed it and I think it has aged very well.  The reason why Streets of Rage beats out the console version of Final Fight is that Streets of Rage was designed as a console game first, not an arcade game.  And even then it took a sequel to perfect the formula.  So yeah, Streets of Rage 2 is definitely better than SNES Fight Fight.  Although Streets of Rage 2 did rip off a lot of Final Fight staples.  Awesome music, though.  I think it's funny that Capcom released a rental only version of Final Fight that let you play as Guy only (it was called Final Fight Guy).  I never played the console-only Final Fight sequels, I wonder if they're any better?  Final Fight One on the GBA had some neat unlockables, but that was about it.  I tell you what is a good console Final Fight is Mighty Final Fight on the NES.

September 2015 Recap

I just think Kirby games are less frustrating.  Mario games can get pretty hard in places, but Kirby games rarely get that way.  Kirby games were initially designed for younger players anyway.  Also, I think old arcade games are good to start kids off on gaming, too, due to their simplicity. Mario games are great, don't get me wrong, but I just think Kirby games are better.

Nintendo franchises that might be good Mobile games

Most touch screen Nintendo games feel like they could work for mobile devices, too.  Other ones not on your list could include Pokemon Shuffle, Art Academy, and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.  I bet if Nintendo goes mobile, we'll see some of those games.

Hooray for Kirby!  I think little kids should start out playing Kirby games, not Mario.

I'm glad you got a winter job!  Are you still going to do the snowshoe races?

I'm also glad you finished The Maw.  I don't think you'll be missing anything by moving on form it, but it sure was a cute game, wasn't it?  I wish more game makers besides Nintendo would still make games like that.  We don't get that many anymore.  Kind of makes me a little sad.

I just bought the Portal pack that goes with LEGO Dimensions, but I don't have the full game yet.  But the Portal stuff was the real reason why I wanted to play it, so at least I have it ready.

Right now I'm working on finishing my Skylanders Superchargers review, which will post late next week.  I'm also playing a lot of Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.  It's not as good as regular Animal Crossing, so i can't recommended it to you unless you REALLY like AC as much as I do.  Later this month I'll be looking forward to playing Chibi Robo: Zip Lash and Yoshi's Woolly World, among other things.

Hope you have a great weekend!  --Cary
