How old is your godson? If he's really young, I'd recommend a LeapFrog device over a 2DS.
But if I didn't already hae a 3DS, I'd get a 2DS right away myself since I've been blind in my left eye since birth and can't see the 3D effects.

When you beat Remastered, you can unlock the 8-bit music, but not the NES game. At least not on the PS3 version.
It's definitely geared toward kids. Just a simple 2-D platformer with nothing innovative about it, but for a young kid, that would be new to them. Plus fans of the show will like the game's humor.

You should definitely get the new DuckTales game! I didn't know the PC one had the NES game.
Yeah they announced the Prof. Layton/Phoenix Wright crossover game in the US in the last Nintendo Direct. Maya is a good sidekick. She kind of reminds me of Scrappy Doo. :)
