New toy and another late to the party entry

My favorite game by far is Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I have a review written here for it. If you're looking for RPGs, Octopath Traveler is exactly like an old Square RPG and the Xenoblade games are excellent. And Mario + Rabbids and Luigi's Mansion 3 are games I think you personally would really love.

Nice, I love my Switch. Such a great library of games. Tried the demo for Enslaved, but wasn't a fan. The visuals and controls didn't do anything for me, even back in 2010

Spoils The Last of Us Part II

What I agree on:

Lev- Very good character and even though I can't stand Abby, the one part I enjoyed were her interactions with him. I don't think they handled him being trans the best way since his role in society was what they focused on rather than dysphoria, but still a good character.

Rat King- Amazing design, horrible fight. Also how did all those infected survive in a hospital quarantined off for over twenty years with no food?

Graphics/Design- I felt a bit guilty enjoying them after hearing about Naughty Dog's working conditions but I hope they're proud of how much attention to detail it is. 9th gen games are gonna have to work really hard to compete with that

Gameplay- I think it's paced horribly not just story wise, but gameplay wise but the mechanics and encounters are fun

Museum- Best part of the game hands down

Disagree:

Joel- I'm going with Julian's interpretation but have a different meaning behind it. Ellie was too young to make that kind of decision herself and after she just tells him dying there would mean her life meant something, he was telling her that she doesn't need to save humanity for her life to mean something.

Abby- Her trying to leave the whole thing behind doesn't come across as being the bigger person to me, it tells me she refuses to accept actions have consequ. Something the game doesn't seem to want to teach her. It'll throw in our face how awful Ellie is for killing a dog in self defense, but not how Abby doomed Owen and Mel when they were waiting for her to come back? Or when she was surprised Mel wanted her gone after sleeping with Owen? Or how she tries justifying murdering children? I felt like the game was trying to manipulat me into thinking Ellie's worse than Abby and it backfired so badly. Any redeeming qualities are offset by the awful things she does.

Dina- Besides Lev, Jesse was the only other new character who I liked. And Dina treats him like garbage. It's very clear he's not over their breakup but is keeping in touch with his parents and comes onto one of his good friends. And the way she talks to Ellie feels like she's always reminding her Ellie isn't good enough for her. I dated someone who treated me similarly and its an awful feeling to be on the receiving end of this.

The End- I think that ending did a good job showing why Ellie couldn't let it go. Too good. She's still awful for what she did but it just felt like she only turned out this way because the world kept throwing things at her no one would be able to move past. The plot never really had her do anything beyond reacting  what happens to her. Abby kills Joel, Tommy comes to her with Abby's whereabouts. Sure she makes the wrong choices but I can't judge her considering the shit she goes through until she threatens Lev. But since that's the point where she crosses the point of being irredeemable, I'm more irritated with how that fight at the end felt so contrived. There was no reason for her to feel a need to fight Abby, she could have just stabbed her and ended it.

Episode 180: Failure to Launch

Stage Select:

My favorite is when I asked for Donkey Kong Land on the Game Boy. My mom bought me Donkey Kong 94 instead. DK94 is a much better game than Donkey Kong Land so my mom made the best mistake ever.

Cage Match:

I think these two games are about equal in quality. Both have top notch level design and distinct, fun characters to play as. But I have to go for Tropical Freeze for one simple reason: It actually lets you play as Donkey Kong. It's not Diddy Kong Country, its not Dixie Kong Country, it's Donkey Kong Country!

I'll read that blog if you do! If you want to get really ambitious you can include the other Mario RPGs.

Yeah, Animal Crossing as your pick doesn't surprise me one bit. I enjoyed it too though! And you'll like this: My sister teaches middle school and says when it came (she still taught via Zoom) out her kids were talking about Animal Crossing instead of Fortnite. And it stayed that way until the end of the school year.

My favorite of 2020 is Streets of Rage 4 followed closely by Doom Eternal. Animal Crossing would probably be number three, but Paper Mario could take its spot. And then The Last of Us Part 2 is on the very bottom.

Late to the Party: Ratchet & Clank Future: Into the Nexus

I liked this one but didn't love it. You pretty much hit all the right points, good and bad. The only thing I have to add was how bizarre the story was about those two characters dying and Ratchet's guilt where we never saw them much in the last two games. Like they can't kill Qwark off, but his death would have had meaning and weight since we spent so much time with him. Here you only feel a little bad because it makes Ratchet sad.

As for your backlog, if you have any Bioware game made before Dragon Age 2 or Pokémon game I recommend those.

Haha, I love this game so much. I also am not a huge fan of how they're split most of the game but everything else is basically my perfect R&C game.
I've also had issues with ants. Especially when I have a drill weekend, get back, and see where they all wanted to crawl to this time

Episode 179: Happy Days

Stage Select:

3. Halo- This game didn't just put the Xbox on the map, it defined the FPS genre for two console generations. And unlike most launch games, its still fun to play today.

2. Super Mario World- Best Mario game. Suck it Justin

1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild- I couldn't put this down for over 80 hours. One of my favorite games ever.

Cage Match

Stat Wars Kotor no question. It's my favorite game ever and everything the new trilogy should have been. I can't count how many times I've played this game. Also much more culturally significant. Put BioWare on the map and made every game put in moral choices.
