2K Sports Gets Into the Rasslin' Business

WWE '14 hits shelves this fall.

We followed the slow and tragic decline of THQ here at PixlBit over the past year, and a few of us talk about it at length in the current Darksiders episodes of Backloggers Anonymous. As you no doubt know, the core THQ properties were auctioned off recently, but two franchises were noticeably absent from the big sell-off. Those would be the aforementioned Darksiders and the WWE license, which THQ had held the rights to since the release of WWF Smackdown for the PlayStation in 2000. We now know the fate of the WWE video game license, and it has fallen into the hands of 2K Sports. So what does that mean for the gamer itching to simulate Cena vs. Punk in a TLC match?

Howdy PixlBit friends! As you know, the site is in need of a few upgrades to improve its usability. As such, I've been working hard to roll these features out as quickly as possible. Today's changelog isn't too hefty, but I think it's a good starting point for some of the bigger stuff coming down the line.

Kenji Eno Passes Away at 42

The controversial Japanese game developer leaves a legacy of genre bending titles.

Last week was kind of a crazy week of news for video game fans of all walks of life. Naturally the PS4 announcement took up the lion’s share of the attention, and with good reason considering how long the current console generation has lasted. Obviously big and sad news hit a lot of people close to this website with the announcement that 1up would be closing, and some excellent writers getting laid off. With all of that commotion it’s easy to forgive if you didn’t realize that Kenji Eno died last week, as well. You can also be forgiven for asking who that is, because although Eno was a legendary game designer to a lot of people, he was also an enigma that hadn’t been in the gaming news for over a decade.

Blizzard's Console Prototype of Diablo III Up and Running

You'll have to keep waiting for that PvP...

With all the huge and surprising titles to come out in 2012, it’s almost shocking that a game as hotly anticipated as Diablo III seems to have come and gone, with little discussion only 6 months after its release. Blizzard hasn’t forgotten about the game though; in addition to constant game updates and an expansion in the works the company has been tinkering around with a possible console version. Oh, and that PvP mode is still in the works, but you’ll need to be a little more patient on that front.

Street Fighter x Mega Man Coming Dec. 17

A fan made project kicks off the Blue Bomber's 25th anniversary early.

It’s been a rough time for Mega Man fans lately. After the departure of creator Keiji Inafune, work involving the Blue Bomber seems to have ground to a halt within Capcom. After two cancelled projects (Mega Man Legends 3 for 3DS and Mega Man Universe for digital download) the company has been oddly mum on the franchise. With Dr. Light’s favorite son about to celebrate his 25th birthday people have been wondering if there’s any hope left for the series. While Capcom is remaining silent on what they have planned for 2013, fans can look forward to a labor of love coming to them for free this month. Enter a new challenger, in the form of Street Fighter x Mega Man.

Epic Games President Retires

The Unreal Engine developer has another major departure.

It’s been a roller coaster ride for the video game industry this year. Between the closing and restructuring of various companies and the retirement of noteworthy developers such as the BioWare founders, it feels like things are in a constant state of flux as we begin to look ahead to a new console generation. You can add one more name to that list of major departures, as Mike Capps, the president of Epic Games, is retiring.
