A Question of Morality: Console Hacking

Posted on 02/22/2011 at 10:18 AM | Filed Under Feature

That's right. I kind of glazed over that in all of this. Notice that the hackers didn't get their panties in a bunch until Sony removed functionality that shipped with the system.

I had always said how smart Sony was to include that ability because it would keep the hackers away from trying to break the system because they could already get Linux on it without effort.

I'm honestly starting to think that Sony is one of the most mismanaged companies in the industry.

Mario Kart Red and Mario Kart Green?

Funny that you picked up on this little tidbit too. As I read the press release, I couldn't help but think "what the hell do they mean, installments!?"

In all my years of writing about games, I've never seen Nintendo retract a press release, so I find it hard to believe that writing that was a slip up, so I must imagine there is some legitimacy to the statement.

I'm guessing that we are due for an all new Mario Kart and we'll be getting some updated Mario Kart game on the eShop. Super Mario Kart seems like a solid choice and one that would probably benefit from the 3DS technology.

It would be interesting if they did something like WarioWare DIY, as you suggested with the stage editor downloadable title. I'd love to have a stage editor in Mario Kart and it would probably be a pretty simplistic thing to use and make great track designs with.

Hopefully Nintendo either clarifies what they mean, or retracts the statement so we know what they meant in that press release.

3DS Launch Titles Announced

Posted on 02/22/2011 at 08:34 AM | Filed Under News

This is a fairly respectable launch line-up. Definitely better than the DS, that's for sure. I'm still holding out hope that Nintendo is going to send a review unit with the launch games, but worst case scenario, I'll be grabbing the system and PilotWings on launch day.

We should be seeing review copies from all of the other publishers, so I'll be distributing them to staff who grab the 3DS, as they come in. We'll be continuing to post news and previews of the launch games, so be sure to check back.

Episode 21: Revenge of the Meta-Talk

Looks like Bonk might still be coming, as it's still listed on the Hudson website. It's also listed on the Japanese Hudson site, so who knows.

WiiWare version appears to be cancelled though.

Further Proof of Okamiden 3DS?

UPDATE: The listing for Okamiden 3DS has been removed from the Capcom press site. Not sure if that means something or not, but clearly they don't want any more publicity around its listing.

Episode 21: Revenge of the Meta-Talk

Actually, Zap is right, 'of' was not validly used there. It said "a sign of it's coming," which reads "a sign of it is coming." It should be "a sign of its coming" or "a sign it's coming." I removed the apostrophe, so it reads like the former.

Anyhow, thanks for taking charge on this guys and bringing it back. I look forward to listening at work on Monday.

Okamiden Coming To 3DS?

I'm really hoping this is legit. Chessa and I will still be getting it on the DS anyway, but a 3DS version would be pretty sweet regardless.

Based on how quickly I got a response from our Capcom rep (at an odd hour of the night at that), I'm thinking that there might be some validity to this listing.

Pilotwings Resort Preview

There's been no official word, but rumors indicate that the game will sport multiplayer dogfighting and a co-operative exploration mode, but nothing is confirmed as of now.

Games I Just Impulsively Bought: Freshly-Picked Tingle's Rosy Rupeeland

Thanks for the info, vudu. Glad to hear I didn't wildly overpay for the game.

Overall, it sounds like you enjoyed it, albeit with the help of a guide. I'll take your advice and reference those resources for the negotiation aspects. Oddly, that game concept seems very un-Nintendo, so I'm surprised to see it in a property that is tangentially related to Zelda.

Bizarre Creations Closing Its Doors

Posted on 02/16/2011 at 11:47 AM | Filed Under News

I looked into it and it would seem that when Activision purchased Bizarre, they also gained ownership of all of their Intellectual Property.

So while Bizarre is now closed, the Geometry Wars property will stay in possession of Activision. I'd wager that Activision will hire back some members of Bizarre, like Geometry Wars designer Stephen Cakebread, if they desire continuing that series.

If not, they can always put a new team on the project and continue the series themselves.
