John Carmack Delivers His Annual QuakeCon Keynote

Posted on 08/02/2013 at 03:24 AM | Filed Under News

Carmack is very interesting to listen to. Ryan McCaffrey over there at IGN did an interview with him not too long ago and it was fascinating. I'll have to find the complete audio for his QuakeCon speach somewhere, but your article Travis did a good job summarizing it. Thanks.

I felt the same way about Halo. As time went on, my involvement with the games declined steeply. The story in the first game is very straightforward. There's a mystery to uncover and a clear enemy. The ending is epic and I'll always gape at the final cut scene. It's so Star Wars, or really any great space adventure.

I had such a weird thing with Revenge. Coming off of Burnout 3, I didn't like it, but a few years ago, I jumped back in to Revenge and wondered just what the heck I was thinking, because it is fantastic. It's easily as good as B3, if not better. It has all the essential elements of a Burnout game. Burnout Paradise didn't capture my attention when that came out, but I'm going to go back to it again someday and probably wonder what the heck I was thinking, again.

Earthbound, well what are Pixlbits thoughts on this game?

I heard some talk on podcasts about Earthbound and some of the very strange things that can happen in the game. This has me really interested in playing it.

I actually never played much strict multiplayer. I played a ton of co-op though with a buddy of mine every weekend for three years, playing from the beach landing on Silent Cartographer through Assault on the Control Room. Something new always happened to make us laugh and shout. I got my first big screen TV just to get more viewing space while playing split-screen because, unfortunately, you couldn't play the campaign missions co-op via LAN.

I have to pick up the Anniversary Edition again for 360 and go achievement hunting. I never did 100% it.

I love Dual Strike but I've never beaten it. I'm going to play all these games again sometime soon and I think I'll look up a walkthrough. I've heard other people say how the Advance Wars games are like puzzles where you have to figure out just the right combination of units to win a map. That seems to be true in my experience and it frustrates me a little bit because I like to improvise and be rewarded for doing so. Still, I love the presentation of Advance Wars. It's like playing those Avalon Hill war strategy board games that I used to play.I couldn't find anyone to play with me though and I would just move units around the board and play against myself. Advance Wars reminds me of those times.

That monster will have to pry that controler out of my cold dead hands before I give it up.
