My initial impression of the graphics wasn't all that great. I've definitely seen better but then I thought of all the innovative gameplay to come with mimics hiding as objects and Goo Gun mechanics and realized that's where most of the technology went.

According to Game Informer's podcast, the game is more survival horror and less run-and-gun. It's more like Resident Evil in that way, I think.
The Giants handled it but got banished to Earth for their troubles. Also, the Arkeyans used to defend Skylands against The Darkness until they started messing with technology and magic. Then the warlike Arkeyans outnumbered the peaceful ones and created a tyranny under the Arkeyan King. . . I'm kind of getting into this Skylanders lore.
