Dammit, JRPG's!

I have one complaint about Dragon Quest 11, and it's a complaint I have with a lot of JRPG's - I can't use ALL my characters in combat in once. There are seven characters you collect in this game - why can't I use them all in combat at once, instead of just four? That would be rad. Final Fantasy X sort of let you do that. That's kind of why I like Last Remnant - because you have a shitload of characters and you use them all at once.

I also played a bit of Iconoclasts a little while ago. Really fun game.

I'm thinking of buying the new Assassin's Creed for my brother for Xmas. Hell, I'm almost thinking of buying it for myself. It looks really good, and I love the setting. Big fan of Ancient Greece.

It's getting cooler here at last. Been in the 80s. Really nice.

I'm always looking at those Assassin's Creed games and wanting to see their environments in those historical settings. I never seem to get to them though.

My problem with today's RPGs is that they are too long and meandering.  Who has time to complete a 130 hour game?  I sure don't.  I miss the 16-bit days when JRPGs lasted 30 hours or so.  That's more manageable.  Octopath Traveler would be like that if it wasn't so grindy.

It must be because of console memory limitations. PC RPGs routinely let you have 6 characters at once. Well at least we're past that godawful stage where during the PS1 and 2 days where JRPGs only let you have 3 character parties.

DQ 11 would be way too easy if you could use all the characters. I usually assess the situation at the beginning of a battle then change the line up to suit the battle.
