A Bloody Game - Battle Chess

I don't know why I thought of this game today, but I did, so here it is. Battle Chess was a MSDOS chess game, but it's gimmick was that the pieces were soldiers, and when one captured another, it killed the captured piece violently. It was a pretty good idea, I guess, at least it made chess interesting to teenagers and young boys looking for a bit more action. I remember thinking it was cool.

Other than that, it was pretty bare bones. You could play against the computer or against a friend locally. I think there might have been different sets you could chose from, but I'm not sure.

I played this at home and at my friend's house. The gimmick was cool, but eventually it got boring. It wouldn't be until I got older that I truly appreciated chess.

But Battle Chess was cool for the time.

I was looking for some traditional games on Xbox Live a few weeks ago and came across chess. I wondered, where the heck is battle chess. I guess FF Tactics is kind of chess plus fantasty.

I remember Battle Chess. Its animations were fun for a bit, but it wasn't quite as fun as Archon, which allowed you to have the pieces fight. Now I do appreciate real chess, having learned it at a young age. I'm no Garry Kasparov, though, and it's been a long time since I've played it. I haven't run across a lot of chess enthusiasts lately.

My favorite death animation was the rook eating the queen. I gues that probably came out wrong, LOL. And speaking of the queen... dat ass.
