I never intended to own an original Xbox. I had a Dreamcast, and planned eventually to get a PS2 for Final Fantasy, but the year I returned home after living in San Francisco, my parents surprised my brother and I with an Xbox for Xmas. I wasn't convinced at first, but Halo soon changed my mind. As time went by, it became one of my favorite systems...it had some great games - KOTOR, Ninja Gaiden, etc. But one game I really played a lot was Project Gotham Racing.

I played a lot of racing games growing up like Pole Position, Hang On, Outrun, and the like. But Project Gotham Racing was the first modern racing game I really got into. It was great. What was most interesting about it was that in addition to the usual races, there were events where you won depending on your style, not your speed. For instance, you got points called "Kudos" for drifting around turns and the like. I spent a lot of time with these events trying to do the coolest moves. Never played a racing game that had that before.

I really enjoyed this game. The franchise has sort of died out now, and I never played the sequels. but I really had a lot of fun with this. I really liked the original Xbox, and I still think fondly of my time with it.

the 360 had some good games. But I'm more sentimental about the original Xbox.

I remember playing this at my dad's beach house one summer. I liked it but it asked me to drive a little too perfectly for my taste. I like to crash and drive wreckless, which I why I love the Burnout series.

I imagine Forza Motorsport is its modern sucessor.

I like the simulations more. But they can be a little tough for me.

I never had an Xbox myself, but I honestly think I'd love at least the SEGA games in its library, among a lot of other stuff.

there were a lot of great games. It's cool that the latest xbox is backwards compatible and some of the original Xbox games get enhanced.

I bought the Original Xbox for my son one Christmas. Ended up buying tons of games for it including this one. It was the successor to Metropolis Street Racer on the Dreamcast.

I love Project Gotham Racing. I think I played the three on the XBox/360. I did love the Kudos system where drifts and I think racing perfect lines earned you Kudos coins and it brought replayability to the game. Why stop at earning all bronze Kudos when you can move up to silver, than gold, and I think platinum was the highest. Those were tough to earn.

I have PGR 3 and 4 for the 360. PGR 3 was a blast, for exactly the reasons you mention.
