half life

There are many, many brilliant moments in Half-Life 2, but my favorite is sort of a personal one. I was playing the game as my brother watched, making my way through a building along with the AI companion, Alyx, as we were pursued by the enemy. I came across a TV that was playing a speech by the tyrant overlord of the city. For some inexplicable reason, I decided to shoot the TV. Alyx, the AI, commented, "Yeah, now is not the time to be watching TV."

Years later, I am still so impressed with this moment. First, someone had to think of the possibility. Then they put it in the game, and I randomly experienced it. It might not seem impressive so much now, but at the time, it was amazing.

The game was hyped for many years before it finally came out, and we can thank its designs for games such as Bioshock, Crysis, and many another FPS that cribbed from it. I don't play many FPS games anymore, because when I did, I could always trace whatever happened in them to innovations in Half-Life 2.

Maybe someday we will get Half-Life 3. Maybe not. But if we don't, we will always have Half-Life 2.

Only reason why I would want to play Half-Life is its connections with the Portal story.

ha ha, well I think you'd be disappointed, cause the connection is pretty thin!

I played it on Xbox and then again with the extra chapters on Orange Box for Xbox 360. The other day I was looking for it again on Xbox One because the Orange Box is backward compatible. Unfortuneately I don't have my hard copy of the game anymore. I'll either borrow my friend's copy or buy it again digitally. Great game. Car controls were a bit wacko, but otherwise super great. Oh, I remember now. Last time I played I used the Grav Gun through the whole game for an achievement. It was surprisingly useful and fun in place of a projectile weapon. You still needed the rockets for a few enemies however.

yeah. the gravity gun can be bonkers. I had such a good time with it.

I totally ignored it until I went for the "one bullet" achievement. You had to shoot a lock at the very beginning with the one bullet. Then it was all grav gun and the brief moment you had to use rockets.
