PS4 Remote Play

One of the much touted features of the new Apple iPad operating system released last week is you can now connect a PS4 controller or Xbox controller via bluetooth to play games. This works for regular iPad native games, but also for the PS4 remote app and the Steam link streaming app, as well as Microsoft's future Project X Cloud streaming service (where you can stream Xbox games on mobile devices without owning an Xbox). I fooled around with PS4 remote streaming on my iPad the other day, and it worked great! I tried out Red Dead Redemption, which looked great - my iPad Pro screen is much nicer than my ten-year-old Sony flatscreen TV.

Using PS4 Remote play on my iPad allows me to play PS4 games on my iPad anywhere inside or outside the house, as long as I have a good internet connection. It works MUCH better than PS Vita streaming, and the fact that you can use a PS4 controller to do it makes it pretty seamless.

I'm gonna fool around with it more, but for now I'm very impressed. I've wanted this feature for a while.

Sounds cool, but I'm too lazy to figure out how to do all that.

The future of gaming is happeniing. Use any piece of hardware you have and syn up a controller and play, continuing your save game from the cloud. I guess they'll still make consoles but maybe not. If the streaming works well, why have a console. Could play a game right on a smart TV. The Netflix of gaming. It's like everything becoming virtual. There'll be virtual console wars now. Ha ha.

yeah, the hardware might change, but games aren't going away.

You can play while you soak in the pool!

Ha ha. I'm not taking my iPad near the pool!

I tried a little of remote play on the laptop and the Vita. I don't think my old iPad Air can handle it and I haven't decided if I need to upgrade iPad just yet. Anyways I like the concept of being able to game while being away from the console.

I dabbled in remote play on Vita. Kind of lost interest in it though. These days my Switch is my primary gaming device (I still have a PS4) so if I want to game off the TV, I use that.

Yep it works just fine with my PS4. I set it up in about 3 minutes. I haven't tried to connect a controller via Bluetooth yet but it shouldn't be hard if the device is discoverable. Dragon Quest XI worked well for the little bit I tested. I wouldn't want to play using the on-screen controller though, too messy.
