One of the most impressive games I have played in the last decade has to be The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. There are few games that compare to its majesty, its whimsy, and its haunted and beautiful world. It's a vast game, and just such a throwback to the original NES Legend of Zelda that I have to love it.

However, years after its release and I still haven't gotten very far in it. I haven't even freed the first divine beast. I've explored and explored it, but I have accomplished very little. I keep telling myself I'm gonna come back to it, but I don't.

Can you truly love a game that you've never gotten very far in? I think so. I love this game.

So I have mixed feelings about Breath of the Wild.  I don't really think it was a Zelda game.  It was another kind of game cleverly disguised as a Zelda game.  And it was WAY too long and too hard.  HOWEVER, with that said, I spent 65 hours on it and beat the game, so I must've liked it somewhat.  I did like the game overall, I just hope that in the sequel, they put REAL dungeons in there and weapons that don't break when you sneeze on them.  Also, keep in mind that my favorite Zeldas aren't the 3-D ones, but the 2-D top down ones like Link's Awakening and Link to the Past.

yeah, the weapons breaking thing was really annoying, and I would like real dungeons too.

I have games like that. I never got very far in Valkyria Chronicles but I still love it.

I want to be excited by Breath of the Wild but I'm still cautious about it. I may, however, get a Switch that comes with the game.

When I played Breath of the Wild, I would get caught up in exploring and had to force myself at times to go back to the main "story." I put 80+ hours into the game between July and December 2018 and beat the game but could have easily put in another 20-40 hours. The game is just so BIG. Set goals for yourself, like finding X number of more shrines so you can get X number of permanent upgrades and then do a Divine Beast. That kind of thinking helped keep me on track. But however you do it, you gotta play that game, man! Rumor is that maybe Nintendo will announce the sequel for this fall to compete with the new consoles but hey, who knoweth the mind of Nintendo? Still, the sooner you get through it, the better you'll feel about yourself.

I'm definitely not ready for the sequel!

Playing BotW for the first time was like playing Zelda I for the first time. This game rocks.

yeah, I loved the open nature of it like the original NES game.

I love Horizon Zero Dawn and am still only like midway through, so I understand you.
