Perfect Dark, Rare's follow-up to Goldeneye, was released in 2000, and was a little more than the Nintendo 64 could handle. It required the N64 memory upgrade, and Rare threw everything but the kitchen sink into the game - sentry guns, remote-controlled rockets, and multiplayer features even more robust than Goldeneye.

It's a great game, and a lot of fun, but it does have frame rate issues. Otherwise it's highly praised, but I'm sure the need for the memory pak decreased its sales somewhat.

My roommate and I, having played countless hours of Goldeneye, set upon playing countless hours of Perfect Dark. Goldeneye is probably more famous, but Perfect Dark is a better game in every way.

One thing it has that Goldeneye didn't, is that you could insert bots into the multiplayer to make it a little more exciting. The game was hailed at the time for its artificial intelligence, and I do have to admit, those bots would fuck people up.

I probably haven't played this game for close to twenty years, but I do have very fond memories of it.

After I completed the main story, I'd play multiplayer games with four teams of 2-3 bots apiece, give them stuff like grenades and rocket launchers. Surprisingly the unarmed bots were the toughest if they got close.

I used to love adding bots into multiplayer during those times. I was playing Duke Nukem 64 with my friend Mark.

I never really played that. But having bots added a lot more chaos.

Bots are so much fun. Mark and I would go in and beat up on them.

I've played the first Perfect Dark game but not all the way through. I think it's in the Rare Replay collection? Or maybe I still have the digital copy I played on Xbox 360. I'll have to check about that. I should give it another try.

I never played the N64 Perfect Dark, as I'm not into FPS games.  But when the Perfect Dark game on 360 was on sale for like, ten bucks, I got it for my brother Jeff.  I know that version didn't get as good reviews, but my brother enjoyed it.  At least for ten bucks.

I played a little bit of that. I bought it for my brother's 360. I wish I had played more, it was pretty good.

Y2K was such a time. That's all I have to add.
