Hang On is a motorcycle racing game released in arcades by Sega in 1985. It was one of the first games to feature 16-bit graphics, and featured a rock-oriented soundtrack composed by Hiroshi Kamaguchi, which was unusual for the time. It was later ported to the Sega Master System. The Deluxe version of the arcade game featured a plastic motorcycle controller the player sat on, tilting right and left to turn in the game, sort of like a real motorcycle. It was pretty cool, actually.

I had Hang On for my Sega Master System, on a double cartridge that also included Astro Warrior. This was back when my older brother still played video games, and he really liked Hang On. Me and my little brother used to watch him play. He even beat the game once, but he was disappointed when the ending was just text saying "Play Our Next Course!" and returning to the first level of the game. Undecided

I was never a big fan of the game, and preferred Out Run, which came out later. I do remember that all you had to do is barely touch another motocycle in Hang On and you would explode. It's not exactly the most forgiving game. (at least I think I remember it this way) It was a pretty popular game in the arcades, and used a scaling technique I don't understand to simulate 3D space that was very influential. These really were the glory days for Sega in the arcades.

I remember liking OutRun too. Dave 'n' Busters has rows of these racing games where you sit on a motorcycle or Jet Skii. I'm too big to use those now. I'd look ridiculous anyway.

yeah, I guess this was one of the first arcade games you moved with your whole body. I can't really think of any before that.

I didn't really play Hang On in arcades as a kid, but boy I sure do remember seeing it everywhere.  More specifically, I remember HEARING it everywhere.  Seems like every arcade owner wanted to turn the volume up as high as they could for Hang On, so everywhere I went in the arcade, I could hear the title screen theme, "donnnnggggg, donnnnggggg, donnnnnggggg..."  Only other arcade game back then I remember them having the volume up really high for was Punch Out, so after the title screen theme from Hang On, I would also hear "Bodyblow! Bodyblow!"

Here's an interesting video on Hang On:

yeah, I remember some arcades are serious sensory overload. These days not my thing, but I guess when you're a kid it's exciting.

I remember the arcade having a bike like that I played once or twice but always crashed. Yeah you breathe on the damn thing and it would crash. I was always more OutRun as well but since I got Hang On on the 3DS XL, it's grown on me. It's a fun little arcade racer

I haven't heard of the 3DS game. But I definitely spent some time on this in the arcades.
