Playing the Game Scene

So I've been playing the game scene, not committing to any one game, you know, games want me to be their one and only, but that's not my style right now. I just got out of a long relationship (Tales of Vesperia), and I'm not ready to just be with one game.

So I've been jumping around a lot. I was playing a bit of Rise of Tombraider, but Tamson and Chris (who both love the reboot trilogy) convinced me to start on the first game, Tombraider. I've dipped my toes in, but haven't really gotten far in it yet.

I'm still fooling around with Nvidia Geforce Now streaming on my computer, and I tried out some mouse games - The Witcher, Pillars of Eternity, etc. I still can't get Trails in the Sky to work. Yell

I also kind of tried City Skylines on my iPad, without a mouse connected. The touch screen did work, but I couldn't figure out quite what to do. I'm gonna try it with a mouse... I really want to play that game.

I've mostly been playing GTA5, RDR2, and Tales of Zestiria. I'm about ten hours into Zestiria. Barely scratched the surface, of course. But I've also been playing Mass Effect Andromeda and Dragon Age: Inquisition. I'm really lamenting I don't have a PC right now that I can play the first two Dragon Ages on... it's really nagging at me.

There is more, but I can't remember it right now. I really needed a new TV (the one I've been using is 13 years old), so I ordered an LG 32" monitor. I didn't need the smart TV stuff, and there weren't a lot of 4K TVs at that size anyway. Should get it midway through this week. I can't wait.

Modern games try very hard to keep you committed to them. I gave in to their micro rewards at first, but I'm not staying with them anymore for such tidbits of enjoyment. What, am I an animal jumping for a treat? If there isn't a deeply satisfying payoff in a story arc, or engaging gameplay that always seems new and interesting, or even just regular big action thrills that I can't resist, then what am I doing? I'd have to say goodbye and see what else is out there. . . Games, that is. I was talking about games, right?

Yeah I've been enjoying a game buffet lately. I've also noticed that what I've been enjoying most is just exploration... I've really been getting a kick out of exploring games' nooks and crannies. There are certainly games out there designed to satisfy that impulse! Laughing

Exploring is my favorite. In co-op it often gets my fellow players mad though. "Where are you?". haha

I have Cities Skylines on the Switch. It's amazing and is the proper successor to SimCity, not the abomination EA put out, but when you build a large enough city, the computations become just a bit too much for the Switch to handle, and it crashes a fair amount. Still, it's the best city sim out there right now.

I've been bouncing between a lot of old school games - Sega Genesis Classics, Atari Flashback Classics, and SaGa Frontier. Also started up again with Octopath Traveler, which superficially reminded me of SaGa Frontier at first.

Yeah, I'm gonna play Skylines for real sooner or later. I had a lot of fun with Sim City back in the nineties.

Ha ha!  Gaming relationships!  I was in a relationship with Ys 9 for a couple of months, but I finished the game and my favorite character Raging Bull got married to another character in the game so I had to break it off.  Hopefully she lives a happy married life in Video Game Land.  Now I have a relationship with New Pokemon Snap.  Yeah this paragraph doesn't sound weird at all, huh? :)

I've been using the same TV I've had since 2006.  It still works fine to me, so I'm still using it!

I've been getting the urge to finally play Ys 8.

I got my new tv on wednesday. It's real nice. My old tv was ok, but it had some probems, including an occasional thick line that went down the left side of the screen... ha ha.  I put off buying a new TV for a while, but I'm glad I finally bit the bullet. Games look amazing now.
