Well, I've been playing mostly action-oriented games, so the other night I had a craving for turn-based combat, and I pulled out an old favorite, Last Remnant. I played this when it was released on the Xbox 360... it was broken as all hell - terrible, gagging frame rate, way more than the 360 could handle. And it was obviously unfinished. Combined with the obtuseness of the game's systems, the mediocre quality of its story, and a disappointing fanfare of negative reviews upon its release, Last Remnant was doomed.

But goddamn, I loved it.

Yes, it was broken. Yes, it was practically incomprehensible at first. But there was just something about it, I don't know if it was the uniqueness of it, or its complexity that appealed to me. It was just fun to explore, and there was always more to explore, and once you got the hang of the battle system, it was addicting.

A few years after its disastrous release, SE released the game updated and improved on the PC with little promotion. I played that, and was astonished by what the game was SUPPOSED to be. But, I never got very far in it.

A little after that, Square Enix released a Remaster of Last Remnant for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, I think. After that, it was released on mobile, but although SE usually has great ports of old classics on mobile, I've read that the Last Remnant port is of dubious quality.

But a while ago, I bought it for PS4, meaning to play it at some point. I think I'm farther in it now than since I played it on 360, and I'm having a lot of fun. Obviously, it's an old game. But at its core, it's still really cool. Just being in control of so many damn characters is cool, although, yes, you cannot micromanage their actions, development, or equipment. But there are so many other things to entertain you in the game.

I'm the only person I know who loves this game. And I might be crazy. But that doesn't detract from my enjoyment of it. Laughing

I had this on the 360. I liked it okay, and I think it has a surprisingly large number of fans. It's been somewhat vindicated by history especially since the newer, less buggy versions came out.

I havent totally delved into the fixed version until now. I'm pretty impressed with it.

I was always interested in it since Xbox 360 didn't have many jrpgs. I'm going to try it sometime.

Lost Odyssey was great.
