Cary's Best Games of 2023 SO FAR Awards Show!

I'm really looking forward to that Mario RPG remake as well as Detective Pikachu Returns, WarioWare: Move It!, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder.  Any one of those could easily topple Tears of the Kingdom for me.

Yes there is a Mario RPG remake coming and it looks amazing!

Gameplay-wise, Theatrhythm games play very similarly to Taiko games, so if you like Final Fantasy music (and who doesn't?) you may want to check them out.

I think most Nintendo games control pretty well, it's just some like Tears of the Kindgom and Luigi's Mansion take a little getting used to.

1981 in Gaming

I know I played Pac-Man when I was five, so I must've not played it untll 1981.  But I was just a little kid and didn't have access to arcades or much of anything really.  Looking back now, it seems that big 1981 titles would've been Ms. Pac-Man, Donkey Kong and Galaga.  The ones on your list I had never seen in arcades, but I did play Fantasy on the SNK collection.  Love that digital voice!

Yeah I can do it now, but it took a while.  I still press the wrong buttons for things every now and then.  I'm not good with games where you use every single button on the controller.  And I still haven't figured out things like how to surf on your shield or attach things to it.  And how Zonai batteries work.

When I was a kid I used to watch Ultraman and Godzilla movies a lot.  After the Saturday morning cartoons were over, one local station would usually show a giant monster movie like that.  Later as a teenager, my younger brothers would watch a lot of Power Rangers.  At first my reaction to that was like, "Ugh, how stupid." But then I remembered all the Godzilla and Ultraman shows I watched as a kid and realized they weren't that much different than Power Rangers.  And of course, I'm a huge fan of Mystery Science Theater 3000, and that has a lot of those kinds of movies as well.  Especially Gamera.

I miss those pinball collections.  Pinball FX kind of ruined those, especially now that they are on a subscription service.  And I loved how many games Taito Legends 1 and 2 had on them!

I dunno, there's a lot of things that took me a while to get used to.  LIke attaching things to arrows.  First you gotta hold down a button to aim, then press and hold another button on the other JoyCon, then on the opposite JoyCon you gotta use the stick to cycle through what you want to attach.  And then you have to tilt your head, stick out your tongue, and stand on one foot.  OK I made that last one up, but you get the idea.  And I sitll haven't figured out stuff like how to surf on your shield or attach things to it.

Yeah Nintendo likes to brag about how popular Game & Watch was back then, but I don't remember seeing them until AFTER the NES came out.  And then the only ones I saw were Super Mario Bros., a Mario Bros. one, Donkey Kong, and I saw a Zelda one at a store but it was too expensive.  The Game & Watch Galleries on the Game Boy and GBA are really good, though.  You should try them if you have a chance.

I know I've said this before, but the Activision Anthology on PS2 rivals the PS1 Namco Museums as far as quality and presentation goes.

My cousins had an Intellivision when we were little.  My cousin and I would play Frog Bog for what seemed like hours.  Not sure why that entertained us so much back then.  There's a Intellivision collection on the PS2 that's pretty good, too.

I hate to defend Nintendo on this, but at least with amiibo you get a really cool figure to go with all that DLC crap.  My only big complaint is that they make them hard to get sometimes!

I scanned the Twilight Princess Link Wolf amiibo into Tears of the Kingdom and got a TON of meat.  So that was pretty useful.  I'm horrible at combat in that game, so I make Link eat a lot of food.  He should have a big belly by now.  I know he runs around a lot, but that boy should be as big as a house by the time he saves Zelda.
