Metal Gear Solid HD Collection Coming to the Vita June 12

Snake's second and third outing will be portable this summer.

Metal Gear Solid HD Collection was originally released this past November for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It contained remastered versions of Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. A Vita version of the collection was officially announced earlier this past March and now the release date has been revealed.

Megatron to Grace the Cover of Madden 13

No, not that Megatron.

For the second year in a row EA has put the Madden cover honors to a bracket styled vote – a concept that sparked some controversy last year when running back Peyton Hillis of the Cleveland Browns won out over the polarizing Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick.  This year proved to be less exciting and we expect that there won’t be as much disgruntled grumbling this year as Calvin “Megatron” Johnson has been awarded the cover of Madden NFL 13.

Atlus Saves Dragon's Crown From Oblivion

The fan favorite publisher steps in to help Vanillaware finish their dream project.

Vanillaware is a company that’s synonymous with lush, 2D graphics and classic gameplay. Best known in the West for Odin Sphere and Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Vanillaware has been hard at work on their next big title: Dragon’s Crown. This side-scrolling action game—a spiritual successor to the Japan-only Princess Crown for Sega Saturn—has been an idea that director George Kamitani has been shopping around for thirteen years. Rumors began to surface recently that the PS3 and PS Vita title had ceased development and was set to be canceled. Enter Atlus, who will support Vanillaware in their ongoing development, as well as publish the game in North America.

New Vita Title Soul Sacrifice Teased in Famitsu

A full reveal will be announced May 10, 2012.

This week's Famitsu contained within it an advertisement for a brand new PlayStation Vita title. The six page teaser doesn't reveal much but what is clear is the name of the title, Soul Sacrifice. A teaser website has appeared as well.

New Apps Coming Soon to the PlayStation Vita

Three new apps will be free to Vita owners starting with Paint Park today.

Sony posted on their PlayStation blog today an announcement of three new free apps that will be released for the PlayStation Vita. The first app, now available, is called Paint Park and it will be the latest in the series of "Park" apps that started with the Welcome Park app at launch.

Street Fighter X Tekken To Feature Cross-Platform Play

PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita owners will be able to fight against each other online.

Capcom revelead during this year's Captivate that when Street Fighter X Tekken releases on the PlayStation Vita, owners will be able to fight PlayStation 3 players online. Furthermore, PlayStation Vita owners will be able to take the game online using 3G, as well as the standard WiFi connection.

Sony Expected to Cut 10,000 Jobs

"Weak TV sales and swelling losses" are to blame.

Sony Corporation is expected to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide over the next year due to "weak TV sales and swelling losses." This doesn't come as a big surprise as the company posted big losses for the last quarter of 2011 and the PlayStation Vita hasn't been selling as well as originally hoped. Other endeavors, like 3D technology and the PlayStation Move have both been disappointing for the company, failing to the gain the traction necessary to bring the company out of debt.

Sony Releasing Vita Firmware 1.65

The update includes minor usability and UI improvements.

With the Vita now in the hands of gamers worldwide, Sony will be rolling out firmware v1.65 "soon" to address some player usability and UI complaints. Leading the pack is a new power setting that will prevent the system from going to sleep at such a rapid pace. Currently during long loading times or even while the credits roll on a game, the system will go to sleep due to a lack of player input. Players can now force the system to only sleep after ten minutes of inactivity.

Zipper Interactive Closed by Sony

With the completion of Unit 13, the internal development studio has been shuttered.

Since 2006, Zipper Interactive has been a part of the Sony Computer Entertainment World Wide Studios family. After being acquired, the team went on to create SOCOM 4, MAG, and most recently, Unit 13. With that title completed, Sony has now confirmed closure of the studio. This news comes roughly one week after rumors were circulating that the studio was already in the process of being disbanded.

New Vita Rhythm Game From Space Channel 5 Programmer Announced

Orgarhythm will mix strategy and rhythm gameplay.

Tak Hirai, programmer of the Shenmue and Space Channel 5 series, has revealed that his recently established company, Neilo, is working on a new rhythm game called Orgarhythm for the PlayStation Vita.
