I laughed out loud reading this, nice work. This game sounds infuriating. The good old "miss" in games like this just pisses me off. If that happens all the time, I'd sure want to hurl the thing out a window myself.
At some point I'll grab the original on the PC (when it's $5) and finally try this series, but I've always hesitated even when it's on sale to pull the trigger.
If you're prioritizing one, I'd suggest Okami, but I have a deep love for that game and I think there's a lot more to sink your teeth into. That said, both are great and totally worth your time and money.
Great write up! I'm getting more and more excited for this game. I love Star Fox and I think this is shaping up extremely well. I plan on reaching out to Ubisoft to see if I can get a review copy for the site and provide a review.
Star Fox has always been a special series for me. I got the original game for my 8th birthday and I've stuck with the series through all of its ups and downs. While I didn't hate Zero like everyone else did, I would've preferred it to be without all the second screen stuff and just more straight forward and simple like the original games.
Yes, it definitely does. As a matter of fact, you're about at the point where it's going to start ramping up in difficulty. I found most of my deaths came from the power seal rooms later in the game. You've still got a lot to get through and the game really changes radically after the time portals open.
Seems like we had the same issues with the cards to pick up. Those things are tough to distinguish from bullets when stuff is crazy. That's probably my biggest issue. The game is very challenging and you're definitely expected to keep playing through it to master it. It's not my favorite Bullet Hell, but it is well done.

Hahaha, yeah man, the Switch portability has been damn handy. That and somewhere along the way I decided it was time to start reviewing games again. If I'm not too tired tonight, I'll crank out another for tomorrow lol. I wish the Switch had an abbreviation as perfect as DS (aka During Shits).
Totally agreed. I was hoping for something a bit more inventive, but outside of the boss fights being opposite of how they normally are (and not fun), it's just a kind of crappy platformer.
I think I 100% finished the game with somewhere near 300 deaths. It's definitely tougher than your average game, but I never felt overwhelmed to the point where I couldn't restrategize and make a better plan to overcome any challenge I was facing.
That is definitely the toughest boss in the game. The key is the grappling hook. It allows you to score hits and avoid damage as he boosts around the room. Took me a couple tries to fully figure it out, but once you get the rhythm, it's not a terrible fight.
Hell yeah dude. You would love both. I should have a review up on The Messenger this week. It's incredible.
